The Future of Portland’s Music Scene is on the Line
In the final days before the August 11 City Council vote on a 180-day moratorium, Live Nation has launched a last-minute blitz of ads through a fake “grassroots” group they’re calling Friends of Portland Music Hall.
They’re spending big to convince Portlanders this 3,300-capacity corporate venue is a win for the community — throwing out flashy numbers about “new jobs,” “tax revenue,” and “economic boosts.”
What they don’t tell you is:
Jobs: Most will be part-time, low-wage, and seasonal. At the same time, local venues risk layoffs as competition for artists and audiences becomes impossible to win.
Tax Revenue & Economic Impact: Much of the money will leave Portland entirely, going straight to Live Nation’s corporate headquarters.
Public Support: Their “80% of Portlanders agree” stat comes from a paid poll with undisclosed methodology — it does not reflect the overwhelming opposition we’ve seen at public meetings.
This campaign is designed to look like it’s coming from your neighbors. It’s not. It’s a corporate PR play to rush this project through before the public can fully understand its impact.

On August 11, City Council will decide whether to pause this project for six months to study its real consequences. We need that time. And we need you to help us get it.
How to take action:
Let Portland’s elected officials know you support a moratorium on large venue development. A short, respectful message makes a big impact.
